organized a seminar on BACPS Project – Doables for the Banking and Software
Industries at Green View,
Bangabandhu International
Conference Centre on 9 September
2009. Mr. Habibullah N Karim,
President of BASIS, presided over
the seminar. Senior executives of
different commercial banks,
members of BASIS and journalists
were present in the seminar.
Mr. Chowdhury Muhidul Huq, Executive Director and Project Director,
Bangladesh Automated Cheque Processing System (BACPS), Bangladesh Bank,
was the Chief Guest in the seminar. Founder president of BASIS Mr. A Towhid
and Sceretary General Mr. Nahid Ahmad also spoke on the occasion.
In the seminar speakers highlighted the use of local software and IT solutions in
the banking sector and discussed how the local software and IT companies can
contribute in the day to day affairs of banks and financial institutions. President
of BASIS, Mr. Habibullah N Karim, said that Bangladeshi software companies
have already developed core banking softwares for the Nepalese and Bhutanese
banks. He observed that there are more than 30 BASIS member firms with
dedicated human resources for the Banking sector in excess of 300. He also
commented that it is very sad that while local companies are providing software
solutions to the foreign companies, they are not getting desired attention from
local banks of the country.
